1998 Webelos Badge
and
Arrow of Light Badge
Requirements Changes

The following Requirements were revised in the
1998 edition of the Webelos Scout Book.

(New wording is shown in bold underlined type.
Deletions are shown struck through in red italics, like this text.

Webelos Badge

The wording of Requirements 1, 4, 5, 7, and 8 were revised, but the basic requirements did not change.

The note at the end of Requirement 2 was changed to read as follows:

(Active means having good attendance, paying den dues, working on den projects)

The following notes were added to requirement 8:

* If you earned your faith's religious emblem when you were a Wolf or Bear Cub Scout, you must do two of the other religious requirements listed under (b).   Webelos Emblems are listed on pages 434-435.

§ Completion of requirement (b) does not qualify a youth to receive the religious emblem of his faith.

Compass Points Badge and pins

There were minor wording changes only.

Arrow of Light Badge

The following was added to Requirement 2:

Tie the joining knot (square knot)

The wording of Requirement 3 was changed, but the basic requirements did not change.

Requirement 6 was changed as follows:

After you have completed all five of the above requirements, and after a talk with your Webelos den leader, arrange to visit, with your parent or guardian, a meeting of a Boy Scout troop you think you might like to join. Talk to Have a conference with the Scoutmaster. Then get an "Application to Become a Boy Scout," fill it out and have your parent or guardian sign it. Show it to your Webelos leader and talk about your interest in becoming a Boy Scout. Complete and turn in a "Join Boy Scouting" application to the Scoutmaster during the conference.

Note: My interpretation of the last sentence of Requirement 6 is that it does NOT say "Join a Boy Scout Troop", it says "complete and turn in" an application.  See the discussion on the Arrow of Light requirements page for further information.
